La Liga matchday 2 ends on Sunday with Barcelona vs Real Betis. These two clubs surprisingly dropped their opening fixtures as favourites. Matters will be made worse for one of these teams as one will be denied full points in consecutive matches. Barcelona are 5-0 against Betis at home in their last 5 meetings. This does not bode well for a Betis team who were expected to place relatively well this season.

Barcelona vs Real Betis Prediction & Match Preview

Sunday, August 25 – 15:00 EST – Camp Nou

Barcelona suffered a shocking defeat to Athletic Bilbao on the opening day. It was heartbreaking as the Aritz Aduriz goal came in the 89′ minute. However, they only have themselves to blame. Barcelona did not play well up until that point and Bilbao deserved the victory. Things can get scary for Barcelona very quickly if they drop points in consecutive games. To make matters worse Messi, Suarez and Dembélé are all expected to miss out through injury. After the departure of Coutinho earlier in the week, this leaves their offensive options extremely thin. Griezmann may have to lead the line alone as the lone striker behind a midfield 5. There is still a lot of quality behind the striker with the likes of Rakitic, Busquets, de Jong and Arthur. Griezmann will look to do what he did for years at Atletico and be the lone offensive threat.

Real Betis have the fifth highest squad value in La Liga, ahead of even Sevilla and Villareal. This is why their loss to Real Valladolid came as such a shock. Valladolid finished 16th last year and this is only their second consecutive season in La Liga. Real Betis will need to bounce back in a big way. When a team spends as Betis do there is added pressure to perform. They may find this difficult against their next opponents Barcelona. New signing Nabil Fekir will need a game or two to get accustomed to the La Liga style of football. Hopefully, he can have a breakout game on Sunday. Their other expensive signing Borja Iglesias will likely not play as he got injured during their last outing. The bad news continues for Betis as their consistent central midfielder William Carvalho is also likely to miss this important match.
