Group D action in the EURO 2020 Qualifiers returns as Ireland vs Switzerland takes place on Thursday. The two teams have good chances of qualifying for next summer’s tournament. Ireland will look to extend their four match unbeaten run in Group D. However, winning this match against Switzerland is easier said than done. Ireland vs Switzerland will be nothing short of an extremely entertaining match.
Ireland vs Switzerland Prediction & Match Preview
Thursday, September 5 – 14:45 EST – Aviva Stadium
Ireland will face Switzerland in their fifth match of the qualifiers this Thursday. They will play in front of their home crowd, as they will try to remain unbeaten. On that note, Ireland have turned Aviva Stadium into a real fortress over the years. So far, they have won two consecutive matches at home without conceding a goal. They will undoubtedly look to add another win to that record. They are currently the Group D leaders, with a 5 point advantage on second place Denmark. With that being said, the Swiss are no pushover. Anything short of an excellent performance from Mick McCarthy’s men will leave the door open for the Swiss to take this match.
Switzerland return to action in the Euro 2020 qualifiers following their participation in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals. In their last qualifying match, they faced Denmark. Remo Freuler opened the scoring for the Swiss to take the lead in the 19th minute of play. The Swiss would eventually give up what was a 3 goal lead, as the match ended in a 3-3 draw. All goals scored by Denmark came in the dying minutes of play. The Swiss will be disappointed with this result considering the lead they gave up but will look to be much better defensively against the Irish. We are expecting a tight encounter between these teams, but Ireland should be capable of getting some points out of this match.
