Lille’s victory on the opening day was a success. New signings Osimhen and Weah got off to a great start. Especially Osimhen who bagged two goals in the fixture against Nantes. It was positive news for a Lille squad who lost some valuable players in the off season. Many pundits believed this Lille squad would not be able to cope with the departures. Well the verdict is still out on that one. Their second game seemed to suggest that indeed they would find it tough at times this season. Amiens finished 15th last season and so a shock defeat on the second matchday is not what the club would have hoped for. In all fairness an early red card is what unsettled this Lille side and lead to their defeat. They will look to bounce back against an inferior St Etienne team.

St Etienne will have a lot to prove against their best competition to date. This will be a tough road fixture for them. They have not played the most impressive teams as of yet and so they may find this game challenging. Star centre back William Saliba is still nursing a groin injury which will likely keep him out of this contest. That is a huge blow for the club as his pace would have been a key factor in defending against Lille’s incredible speed on the wings. Tunisian international Wahbi Khazri remains their main goal threat. Their forward players in the 4-2-3-1 formation are all quite old. There is a lack of youth in the offence of this St Etienne team. In a league as fast paced as Ligue 1 this is a major issue.
