Matchday 2 of Premier League action continues on Saturday, August 17 with Manchester City vs Tottenham. Both of these teams secured victories in their opening fixtures. However, Manchester City did so in convincing fashion while Tottenham let it come down to a late winner. It seems the league is going to have to contend with a City team that improved from last year’s title winning season. The London club may struggle to do just that in this fixture. The Premier League will see two top teams go at it on Saturday with Manchester City vs Tottenham.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Prediction & Match Preview

Saturday, August 17 – 12:30 EST – Etihad Stadium

Manchester City dominated on the road against West Ham during last week’s fixture. Their 5-0 win told us everything we need to know about a team that is poised to repeat as champions of England. Pep Guardiola’s tactics are flawless and do not need to change from fixture to fixture. They will look to hold the ball and keep possession in this one against a Tottenham team that will press high and look to hit back on the counter. Furthermore, he may hand out a debut to newly signed right-back João Cancelo on Saturday. With the amount of depth this club has, Guardiola may look to rotate players from week to week. For example, Agüero and Bernardo Silva are two names who were not in the starting eleven last week that may be given a start against Tottenham.

Tottenham struggled to secure the victory at home to newly promoted side Aston Villa. Son Heung-Min will be absent from this contest as he serves the final game of a suspension. There were some question marks in the Tottenham lineup that Pochettino fielded against Villa. Notable absentees from the starting eleven included a healthy Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen. Pochettino must put contract disputes and disciplinary issues aside. He must field his best lineup if Tottenham want a chance at defeating this City team. Right back is an area of concern for Tottenham. Inexperienced defender Kyle Walker-Peters may have a tough contest against City’s pace if Pochettino gives him the nod. Ultimately City will look to make it 5 for 5 against Tottenham in as many league games.
