Week 2 of the NFL begins on Thursday and we have another NFL free pick for our readers. Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers host the lacklustre Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This divisional primetime game has some extra meaning to it early in the season as both of these teams find themselves 0-1. With the Falcons also at 0-1, the Panthers look like the only team capable of giving the Saints a challenge for the divisional title. Continue reading to see the result of our NFL free pick.

Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Thursday, September 12 – 20:20 EST – Bank of America Stadium

The Carolina Panthers faced off against the Los Angeles Rams in week 1. The game ended in a heartbreaking last minute defeat for the Panthers at home. With that being said, the Panthers have a lot to be optimistic about. The Rams finished with a NFL best 13-3 record last year. It was always going to be a tough game and head coach Ron Rivera will do his best to get his men focused on the next challenge. Christian McCaffrey is slowly but surely establishing himself as one of the best running backs in the league. McCaffrey turned nineteen touches into 128 yards and two touchdowns. Cam Newton no longer needs to be the main option on the ground. Unfortunately, he does not have many stellar options at wider receiver. If he can limit his tendency to throw interceptions, the Panthers can have a successful season.

Tampa Bay looked far from comfortable in a home defeat to the below average San Francisco 49ers. Jameis Winston threw a total of three interceptions. The Buccaneers defence did not perform well either. If Winston cannot get the offence going, teams will exploit their struggling defence. He needs to find star receiver Mike Evans consistently and keep the defence off the field as much as possible. Furthermore, the Buccaneers could get nothing going on the ground. Their running backs Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones combined for a lowly 21 attempts and no points. Tampa Bay were always going to be a pass first team however, Winston and his offensive line need to step their game up if they want to win football games.
