Our Week 2 NFL free pick on Monday Night Football features a game between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns. It is more of the same for these teams as they both picked up a loss in week 1. After high expectations were set for the Browns to have their first successful season in what seems like forever, their performance in week 1 was disappointing. Sam Darnold is out for this one and Trevor Siemian steps in to replace him. The Jets will have a tough time without their starting quarterback. New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns
Monday, September 16 – 20:15 EST – MetLife Stadium
Sam Dornald is expected to be sidelined for three to seven weeks. Enter Trevor Siemian. After playing 14 and 11 games for the Denver Broncos in 2016 and 2017, Siemian spent last year with the Vikings where he played a total of 0. Although at this point in his career, he is a quarterback who needs to wait for his chance as the number two guy. He will get that chance on Monday night and possibly up to six additional games. Week 1 was not kind to the Jets. They lost to Buffalo by a single point in a game that did not feature much offence. Nonetheless, Le’Veon Bell produced 82 yards and 1 touchdown on a combined carries and receptions total of 23. This production is a positive sign for the Jets. After a year of not playing football, Bell can get back to his best.
After acquiring Odell Beckham Jr. in the offseason, expectations and hype for this Browns team could not be contained. Furthermore, they acquired Jarvis Landry as a secondary option to Beckham. The hype may be getting to them, as evidence shows quarterback Baker Mayfield did not have the start to his sophomore season he would have wanted in week 1. On top of the additional weapons at wide receiver, the Browns drafted Nick Chubb in the second round. Furthermore, there are high expectations surrounding Chubb. This offence seems incredibly competent on paper, above all they have to find a way to put it together. Mayfield threw a total of three interceptions. As a result this halted their momentum throughout week 1. In conclusion this team has the potential to be scary down the stretch if they can gain some confidence.
