Rennes vs PSG Prediction & Match Preview

Sunday, August 18 – 15:00 EST – Roazhon Park

In their opening fixture, Rennes won away to a decent Montpellier team. Goalkeeper Romain Salin saved a penalty shot to keep a clean sheet in that outing. The back line had an exceptional game. However, Rennes are facing a much greater challenge on Sunday as PSG boast one of the most potent offences in world football. The lone goal came from the back line but striker M’Baye Niang was the obvious threat going forward. He was fouled 3 times and attempted the most dribbles on the pitch. He might be defending for most of this contest as PSG will look to keep possession for the majority of the fixture. This is a much different Rennes squad from last year’s starting eleven who managed to beat PSG in the final of the Coupe de France. PSG won both of the matches played between these teams in the league last year.

PSG are likely to steamroll competition once again this year. Expect competitive games from Lyon and Lille this campaign. However, PSG are shaping up to dominate every other team in the league and barely break a sweat doing so. There are question marks regarding Neymar’s future before the window closes. He is unlikely to leave during this window as a deal with Barcelona or Real Madrid seems quite complicated. Even with Neymar out of the equation, PSG have the depth and quality to comfortably cruise to the Ligue 1 title. Last time out, Tuchel handed debuts to Abdou Diallo and Pablo Sarabia. Both have the potential to start once more and further settle into the team.
