Schalke vs Bayern Munich Prediction & Match Preview

Saturday, August 24 – 12:30 EST – Veltins-Arena

In their opener last week, Bayern Munich dropped 2 points as they failed to beat Hertha Berlin in what ended as a 2-2 draw. Bayern Munich take on Schalke 04 in the local derby where they’ll be looking for their first win of the season. Bayern have struggled to find replacements for Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. They are confident in their newest signing, Brazilian playmaker Phillip Coutinho of Barcelona who is expected to have an immediate impact on the pitch. Expect Bayern to come out much stronger than they did last week as they look to defend their title. Poland international, Robert Lewandowski scored twice in Bayern’s opener last week. Another player to keep an eye on in this match is pacey winger Kingsley Koman.

Schalke did well to hold Borussia M’gladbach to a goalless draw in their opener. With that being said, their matchup against the defending champs this Saturday will be a much tougher challenge. Schalke will need to defend well and take their chances if they are going to have any chance of securing 3 points. Anything short of an exceptional performance will not suffice. Bayern Munich have won five consecutive matches against Schalke. The last time that Schalke was able to beat Bayern was in 2011.
