Sevilla vs Celta Vigo Prediction & Match Preview

Friday, August 30 – 14:00 EST – Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan

Sevilla’s new manager Julen Lopetegui could not have dreamed of a better start to the La Liga campaign. Not only did they dispatch their first two opponents with ease but they have yet to concede a single goal. It will be a remarkable accomplishment, if Lopetegui can win his first three games and not concede a goal. Sergio Reguilon had a world class first match. Unfortunately, he was withdrawn in the second match with a serious head injury. Therefore, he may not feature in this match. Lopetegui will have his hands full trying to keep a clean sheet without his star left-back. The striking trident of Nolito, de Jong and Ocampos has been a surprising success. De Jong and Ocampos in particular have never been game changers in their own right. Perhaps they feel comfortable at Sevilla and they needed a move to Spain in order to play their best football.

Celta Vigo’s opening schedule has not been kind to them. They have had to play Real Madrid followed by Valencia in their two first matches. Now they face another Champions League quality team in Sevilla. They did surprisingly well to beat Valencia at home last week and will look to shock Sevilla in the same way. Celta Vigo will feel confident in this one as their head to head record is positive against Sevilla. They won 2 of their last 3 matches against Sevilla. Iago Aspas and Dennis Suarez will be the offensive threats hoping to pounce on a Sevilla back line that is missing their star Reguilon.
